This part of the Library sits closest to the noise of the present: elections, culture wars, AI panics, media failures, economic shocks, gender rows. These essays don’t try to track every headline. Instead, they take particular “flashpoints” and ask a different question: what is actually cracking here, underneath the arguments?
Rather than lining up on one side or another, the pieces in this section look at how different structures of consciousness – magic, mythic, mental and integral – are colliding in public. Why does a policy dispute suddenly feel like a holy war? Why do institutions lose authority so fast? Why does AI talk sound half technical, half religious? The aim is not to calm everything down with a clever framework, but to see more honestly what is driving the intensity.
These essays matter because most of us are trying to live, work and stay sane inside these faultlines. If we only see “good people vs bad people” or “my tribe vs yours”, we miss the deeper shifts that are shaping the whole terrain. Faultlines & Flashpoints is an attempt to read the times with a cooler eye and a wider lens – not to tell you what to think about each issue, but to help us recognise the pattern we’re standing in.
