This essay argues that Israel has become a charged symbol onto which the West projects its unresolved guilt, power dynamics and spiritual confusion, rather than being seen as a real place with real people. It shows how the reaction to 7 October and the resurgence of antisemitism reveal a deeper civilisational crisis of moral and symbolic discernment.
